Implant supported dentures provide a long-term replacement option for a full arch of missing teeth. Patients with a full set of missing teeth, or who need their teeth removed, benefit from the stability and natural function and appearance of an implant supported denture. Implant secured dentures offer the added oral health benefits of dental implants.
Dr. William Harper and Dr. Anderson work together to offer patients high quality, natural-looking dental implants all under one roof. Our dental implant team provides personalized consultations and treatment planning for predictable and durable results. Dr. Harper works personally with a high-quality dental lab to ensure durable and beautiful aesthetics. We are dedicated to helping patients restore their oral health through the most innovative implant techniques.
Implant supported dentures use strategically placed implants to optimize available healthy bone tissue. Through careful planning, Dr. Harper and Dr. Anderson are able to provide a wider range of patients with implant supported dentures. A denture is typically secured using at least 4 well placed dental implants. The exact number of implants will vary depending on the patient’s oral health and goals. Securing a denture with dental implants helps patients enjoy a more stable bite and confident smile.
Why Replace Missing Teeth
After tooth loss patients become susceptible to bone loss. Missing teeth weaken the integrity and form of the bite and jaw. Without the tooth roots in place, the bone begins to break down and can lead to jaw regression. Dental implants are the most natural and secure way to replace missing teeth.
Implants are made from a biocompatible titanium material. The implant is designed to gradually integrate with the jaw bone and supports long-term stability. Dental implants can prevent bone loss and support a healthier, better functioning bite.
Patients who have an existing denture may quality to have it secured using dental implants. Dr. Harper and Dr. Anderson can help patients determine if dental implants are the right treatment for them.
Are implant supported dentures better than a traditional denture?
All dentures made by our dental care team are high quality, natural looking and durable. Dental implant secured dentures provide the added benefits that dental implants offer patients with missing teeth. The dental implants help to retain the jaw bone structure and support the integrity and shape of the face. Implant secured dentures allow patients to enjoy a healthy, varied diet without limitation. Implant secured dentures also give patients the confidence that their denture will not slip while speaking or eating.
Do dental implant secured dentures require special maintenance?
Implant secured dentures can be cared and maintained for as you would your natural teeth. An implant secured denture should be brushed and flossed twice daily and patients should visit the dentist at least once every six months. Routine dental checkups can help Dr. Harper recognize any potential concerns early for conservative treatment.
If I already have a denture can I secure it using dental implants?
Many patients with an existing denture are candidates for a dental implant secured denture. Implants require a suitable amount of healthy bone tissue for a successful result. A personalized dental health consultation with your Newport News dentist can help determine if you are good candidate for an implant secured denture.

Dr. William Harper
Dr. William Harper has been working with implants for 17 years and has experience with many different types of implant systems. He uses dental implants to help patients replace missing single teeth, both front and back teeth. He also uses implants to replace multiple missing teeth, including implant-supported bridges, implant-assisted dentures, implant-supported dentures, and “All on 4”, “All on Four”, and “Teeth in a Day” implant solutions. His extensive background in smile design, anterior porcelain veneers, crowns, and occlusion (bite forces, and properly spreading out bite forces) allows him to predictably reconstruct natural-looking smiles and chewing ability. He often is called upon to help rescue or correct previous implant problems. His practice is very much a “problem solving” type of practice, and while he does spend some of his time on typical fillings and simple crowns, he spends more time coming up with solutions to help patients keep their functional and esthetic health for rest of their life. Dr. Harper would prefer to find solutions early, rather than dealing with the problems created by “botched” treatments done haphazardly and without proper experience and training. Some of the problems that Dr. Harper has solved are shown below. (or HERE)
Dr. Harper, our restorative dentist, is a member of the Academy of Osseointegration which is the premier international association for professionals involved in implant dentistry. He is also a member of the Advanced Dental Implant Study Club (ADISC). The ADISC is led by Dr. Robert Faulkner, a renowned expert in the world of implant dentistry., Dr. Faulkner is the director of The Ohio Center for Osseointegration and Restorative Dentistry and co-authored the textbook “Fundamentals of Implant Prosthodontics”, which is the most widely used textbook in dental schools today. The select group includes surgeons, master dental technicians, and highly educated restorative dentists, such as Dr. Harper. They review and discuss challenging cases, new research, and new technology surrounding dental implants. In addition, Dr. Harper is a member of the Spear Faculty Club, a Sustaining Member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and has earned his Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry.
